[SOLVED] Ipad Compatibility

Postby sg60@rogers.com » Tue Jul 27, 2010 11:54 pm

Does anyone know if Monkeytunes works with an iPad? I've been unable to connect to MediaMonkey using my iPad.

What problems are you having? I have had no trouble connecting Apple Remote with MonkeyTunes from the iPad. Is it not connecting?

Have you right clicked the MonkeyTunes Treenode and done View Log File... and then searched for "ERROR"?

I've loaded MonkeyTunes and I can see the tree node in MM. When I activate the Apple Remote app on my iPad I get the pairing screen with the 4 digit code but nothing else happens. How do I use Bonjour to tell MM about my device? My device doesn't show up in MM either.

I've opened the two ports on my router and I don't have a firewall running on the PC with MM.

I don't get any entries in the log file when I run the Apple Remote app on the iPad.

The thing I find a little odd is that iMonkey worked fine from this iPad but I'm not getting anywhere with MonkeyTunes.

Most likely it is your Firewall or Windows Defender still blocking it? Can you try turning your Windows Firewall or Defender off altogether just to test this? This is odd that iMonkey worked so it can definitely see your PC. This means that port 5353 or 3689 may be blocked or that port 1024 may be blocked also.

The Windows firewall was already disabled. I turned off Microsoft Security essentials as well. I already had set up port forwarding for ports 5353 and 3689. I'm still not getting any response. I didn't see anything in the documentation regarding port 1024. Should I be opening up this port as well?

Well you probably don't need that 1024 but that is the port MonkeyTunes responds back to the iPad on.

It sounds like this is definitely Bonjour related since you are on the Pairing screen yet your device does not show up in the MonkeyTunes Treenode?

Can you please right click the MonkeyTunes treenode and do View Log File after trying to Pair and email me or paste the log file here?

Before I do this I have two questions.

First, is Bonjour a standard part of the iPad OS because I have not specifically installed it on my iPad?

Second thing is I have a LAN and iTunes and MediaMonkey are installed on more than one PC. MonkeyTunes is only installed on the one PC that I want to connect to with my iPad. Also, my iPad generally syncs with a different PC than the one I'm trying to connect to where MonkeyTunes is installed. Would this have any bearing on the connection issues?

I'll try your other suggestion when I get home from work tonight.

1. Bonjour is in your iPad. Apple is the inventor of Bonjour and it is automatically on all Apple Devices.

2. That is the whole point of bonjour, self discovery of apps like MonkeyTunes on your different Pc's on your network.

I figured out what the issue was. My router has a setting to filter anonymous Internet requests. When I unchecked this option the pairing window came up. I'm happy about that but I feel that my network is more vulnerable now as this security option hides ports and prevents my network from being pinged. I would have thought that setting up port forwarding for the two communication ports would have made it unnecessary to remove the filtering option. Anyway, thanks for your assitance in getting this going.

Glad you got it SOLVED!

The odd thing is, that is on your local WIFI network? Why is your Router filtering traffic inside your private network? I can understand blocking external Internet port access which is what most routers do by default, but blocking internal traffic doesn't make sense unless you have a lot of visitors on your WIFI network.
