My Computer

Postby Andy_P » Thu Feb 18, 2010 3:23 pm

Hi, thanks to you for the Places Bar Editor, this is something I've wanted to sort out for a long time!
One thing though... the item I would really like in the places bar is "My Computer".
I've tried lots of things but cannot work out what to put in as the "Path", if it's possible at all!

Can it be done?

Yes,

When editing places there are two sides of the screen. One for entering your own path the other side is if you want one of the "Special" places like My Computer. Just select My Computer. See this screenshot for an example of setting My Computer.

My appologies, I should have been more specific...
I'm talking about the OFFICE tab.

Oh sorry. As far as the Office tab goes I think you can only create normal folders.

OK, that's a shame. I guess it's a limitation of Office itself, as I've done a lot of internet searching and never found a way to do it.

Thanks for your assistance though. :)

No problem. I am pretty sure it is a limit of Office.

That's one thing I don't understand. How can you send anything to "My Computer"? It's not really a location, but a list of your storage devices. Why would anyone want to send a file to a place that doesn't exist?

I don't want to send things to "My Computer" itself, but to use it as a starting place, so I can select it and then chose whichever drive/folder combination I want to save to.

That's why it *is* there in the normal Windows sidebar.
And it's why "My Network Places" is there too - you can't save to that "place" either.

So there's no reason why it can't be on the Office Sidebar except for Microsoft's oddities.
