Working example

Postby joeyhess » Wed Jul 16, 2008 2:54 pm

Hello,

Cannot put it to work. Passed last weekend hours and hours to see if I could put the example to work but did not.
Have been avoiding spending more time on the JIntellitype. I feel frustrated.
Could you be so kind and send me a zipped folder with a very simple working example of JIntellitype and all the files needed?
This way I would know that if I cannot compile is not because some file is missing. Cause I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was wrong. I even downloaded Netbeans to see if it would compile it rather than with Eclipse.
I feel frustrated. I think I will not give it a try again unless I have such a working example with all the needed files in a folder.

Thanks.

OK I am hoping you are familiar with both Java and Eclipse?

I have created this project.

https://code.google.com/p/jintellitype/downloads/detail?name=jintellitype-example.zip

1. Unzip the project to disk.

2. In Eclipse do: File->Import->Existing Project Into Workspace.

3. Right click on JIntellitypeTester.java and choose Run As->Java Application....

Let me know if that works for you....

No problem. If you are working on something you eventual release publicly let me know and I would be more than happy to add your application and link to the JIntellitype front page.

Hi,

the example works not as i believed it would for me :/
Those normal hotkeys work fine, but the intellitype commands like APPCOMMAND_BROWSER_FORWARD does not. I noticed they work if i also run windows media player(wmp) and put the focus to something else then wmp. As soon as i close wmp i will not receive intellitype events anymore.

Any idea whats going wrong here? Using Win7 64bit with Java Virtual Machine 1.6.0_21 (i think its a 32bit jvm). The media keys work fine in Winamp and in wmp for example.

That might be a limitation of WM_HOTKEYS commands. On my Windows 7 machine I have a Media Keyboard with those Play Pauye etc Intellitype commands and it works properly with the demo code I provided regardless of whether WMC is open or not?

Maybe try installing the full Intellitype package but you definitely should not have to.

As i know i have intellitype fully installed.

I would say i have a driver problem with my keyboard, if it would not work with wmp running. It's a dell multimedia pro usb keyboard and i can't find drivers made by dell.

//Editor:
noticed that the keys will work too if winamp is running, so it works not only with the media player. No idea what these tools do to make it work? For me it sounds like they are activating something so the events get sent.

Exactly! Microsoft chooses some odd behaviors.

If you write an app that uses JIntellitype that you publish let me know and I will add your app to the JIntellitype homepage.

Just wanted to figure out why my media keys didnt work with music player aTunes which uses JIntelliType.

Another problem is, that they don't support hotkeys on 64bit jvm. They check for 64bit and if so they disable JIntelliType. But as i found you already added support for 64bit, so i will provide a patch for aTunes.

Hello Melloware,

Could you have any working example for netbeans?

The exact same example above should work fine in Netbeans. Just create a new Netbeans project and load it in.

Excuse me, but the link to the example is broken.
It would be really helpful if you fixed it, since I have the same problem as the original poster.

Thank you very much,
~ Mandibulin.
