[SOLVED] WDTC-20 question

Postby gmerin » Sat Jan 09, 2010 7:36 am

I'm running the latest iPhone version, and ZWC v2.2.3614.23384 on Vista

Is there something special I need to do in order to get ZWC to recognize this is a thermostat? It registers the device as a Type: BinarySwitch NodeId: 10 and does not display the temperature; it allows On/Off and shows a level of either 50% or 100%

What version of Firmware are you using on your Stick? When you add that device in ThinkEssentials it should be a ThermostatV2 type device not a Binary Switch.

I have a few other users using WDTC-20 so it definitely works, strange why it is showing up as a binary device on yours?

Finally found the thinkstick upgrade utility (no thanks to ControlThink...). It says the stick is running v4.30

OK 4.30 is good. Now when you run the latest ThinkEssentials how does that device show up in your network?

Latest ThinkEssentials is here: http://forums.controlthink.com/t/2112.aspx

When you add that device it should show up as a ThermostatV2 and not a BinarySwitch. If it still shows up as a Binary Switch then I recommend posting on this forum thread to find out why?

I have never seen a device not properly recognized before as something it is not!

using that version of ThinkEssentials it seems to still see it as a binaryswitch. Under device properties it shows the light switch icon, Type: z-wave device, manufacturer: wayne dalton.

I'll enter the post on the ControlThink forum.

OK that is a good idea. That is extremely unexpected behavior.

Its fixed.

someone on the ControlThink forum said he's seen this behavior before: pressing the bind button for 4+ seconds when adding the thermostat to ThinkEssentials puts the device into its auxiliary mode of a binary switch.

I removed it, and while re-entering it into ThinkEssentials I pressed the button as a momentary contact instead of holding it down. Not sure why, but my system doesn't always recognize a new device on the first or second press so instead of just holding the bind button down until acknowledged by ThinkEssentials, I did a series of short presses until it was noticed (4x).

Awesome! Now in the Zwave Commander UI it should appear as a Thermostat with Thermostat controls.

Still having trouble WDTC-20 question

Postby mrscruple » Thu Jan 28, 2010 1:51 pm

WDTC-20 question I have the latest Firmware, on the usb stick and thinkessentials picks the thermalstat fine. I have the Advanced functions.
But for the life of me i cannot get Z-commander working with the advanced functions. It picks up as a generalthermstatnode5. but i can only turn on and off and have dim settings. How to i change that so it works?
Thanks Nink

Hmmm generalthermsat is bad, it should be a GeneralThermostatV2. GeneralThermostatV2 is what has the advanced settings you need.

Can you send me your zwave.log file which is located next to the EXE?

Do this....

1. Edit ZWaveCommander.exe.log4net and change "INFO" to "ALL".

2. Restart Zwave Commander.

3. Log in using the iPhone/iPod.

4. Send me the zwave.log file.

It will help me figure out what is going on.
