[FIXED] Can't get BlueSocket Authenticator to work :(

Postby Chicane-UK » Wed Sep 17, 2008 3:05 am

Hi!

Wondered if it'd be possible to get a little help on the BlueSocket app. I just bought it this morning and fired up the WiFi on my iPhone, to see if I could authenticate my institutions Bluesocket system. Set my username / password in the Settings window but whenever I go back into the BlueSocket app I just get a big red X with 'Connection Failed! Check login settings'

It shows me a DHCP acquired IP address so I know that it's at least on the wireless network, and when I open Safari it takes me to the BlueSocket login page. Is there something that the Networks team might have disabled on the Bluesocket system that would prevent this from working?

Any help would be greatfully appreciated - this app will be a real time saver and will be well worth the £1.19 when I can get it working :)

2 things. You did go into the iPhone Settings application properly set your UserName and Password again? Make sure you did not accidentally "fat finger" them as that has been the cause of many troubles.

Other than that I can't think of anything. Some universities require that your devices MAC address be added to the network but then you said you could log in through Safari so that means your device can already get on the system.

If not do me a favor...using your laptop or other computer on the network, have it get the BlueSocket login page and then do a View Source in Firefox or IE and send me the HTML of the whole /login.pl page. That will help me diagnose it. If for some reason your network does something slightly different do not worry, I will fix BlueSocket! Your money was not wasted...I will stand by my work!

Thanks for the super quick response :)

I'm fairly sure I've got my username and password right but did go back into preferences and set the details a number of times to make sure I was doing them right... regarding the MAC address issue, we can login to the BlueSocket from any wireless enabled device without having to register the MAC address so I don't think that is the problem :(

I'll PM you the HTML source from our BlueSocket login page - hopefully there is something in there which helps explain why this isn't playing! :)

Thanks again.

Another user located in Germany is also reporting similar behavior. I have him BETA testing some changes to see if it fixes it. Also sent you a PM.

This has been fixed by Chicane UK by installing the client certificate on the iPhone. we discovered a different problem which will be fixed in 1.2 where it was looking for http://www.google.com to tell whether it is successfully authenticated or not but in the UK http://www.google.com returns http://www.google.co.uk so it didn't match. this will be fixed and posted in 1.2 even though it authenticates it just shows you the red X in 1.1 to make you think you didn't authenticate. Marking this thread FIXED.

This has now been fixed permanently in Version 1.4 by allowing the user to enter an ignore SSL URL to ignore all certificate errors from your institution.
